Hi some of you know over the past few weeks ive switched over to sky but i think something wrong. My Broadband went active on the 19th but couldn't use till the 21st due to no sky router its now the 26th and im connecting at 7527 kbps but i know i should be able to get more. Ive rung sky and there convinced i cant go over that speed despite others connected to the same pole as me getting 12meg on old phone lines and ive got a brand new one even got pre filtered faceplate . Ive checked my line on the 17070 for nose and its silent (using test socket) as can be here's my stats do you think i should be able to get more i reckon at least 9.5meg with that Attenuation also a note my Attenuation was 35 on the first day connected but raised to 37.5 and stuck there
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7527 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 37.5 dB 20.8 dB
Noise Margin 14.6 dB 12.5 dB
This is what kitz.co.uk says when i put my Attenuation in
adsl2+ (LLU) 10656 kbps Throughput 9431kbps
Thanks For Any Help
Ash
EDIT
This is a linkfrom me to the exchange the route the phone lines take
This is neighbours On same pole as me.

hi mate
You should get more then 7500 on your line.
ring up sky n ask to be put on a gaming profile or ask them to drop your noise margin to 7.0 because your noise margin is at 14.6 atm which is to high. the default is 7.0db with sky.
hope this help

Thanks for the reply i rung them up last night and told them to lower the SNR because it was too high and they said it was not possible and my line would only support 7.5meg max i dont think they do the gaming profile on the SVBN though. I spent 10 mins trying to explain what i wanted her to do she did not seam to no much about it TBH. Ive used the email support as they seam to give better support it just takes longer lol. I asked on here to get a double opinion to just confirm i wasn't crackers thinking i could get more so thanks for confirming it i will try give them another ring soon some one using phone at min.
Im starting to regreat moving now no saving is worth the effort its took with them so far lol.

i had the same probs when i was with sky some of the tech advisors for usless n clueless. ask to talk to a manager and say to them you want the gaming profile. the srn on your line is to high. i can see that from here. you should get about 10meg on your line i wud say.
you just need to keep going on to them and have a moan lol
Hope this helps and good luck.

I've read through this post and these are the points I've picked up.
1. You have a brand new telephone line fitted which includes a built in filtered face plate.
2. You've been connected to Sky broadband for only 5 days. ( connected on 21st).
3. You've made numerous phone calls complaining about the speed already.
I think if you leave the router alone for 2 weeks, the SNR will settle down on its own.
|
|
|
|
Any reason you left VM @ 50meg to sky at 24Meg??????
Let DLM finish and then if you've got another router download and use DMT Tool v8.06 so you can change your SNR
|
|
|
@wanapoo i actually activated on the 19th and connected using my m8s router lol i just got my own sky one on the 21st and sky said them self that DLM wont budge it past 7.5meg this is what i don't get.
@paul1360 sky offered me a deal that included TV eith 5mixes + multi room sky broadband unlimited and evening and weekend calls, and it works out at £42 we was paying £48 to virgin media just for broadband and weekend calls no TV. TBH i was always happy with virgins 10meg when it actually run at 10meg but i spent most of my time on 2.5 so i upgraded to 50 to get away from there traffic system. But that came at a price sky guaranteed me at least 10meg possibly higher unlimited no traffic management. So i was happy to switch especially with the deal offered but now there going back on it saying i cant get past 7.5
I will try phoning up again in about 10 mins get to a manager and try get my profile forced onto gaming profile and also get SNR lowered i head there DLM is useless anyway and it appears to be true. A friend of mine had it turned off because he likes to turn his router off on a night and skys dlm put him on 2 meg thinking his line was iffy lol

I asked and he put me on it but it did'nt help because of w/e errors are on the line hes raised it to tier 2 support, but there busy and there going to get in contact apparently these errors have screwed the line training up. ive got to say this is one things i loved about cable it just worked for me lol.
Well see what happens with tier 2 support the lad tried everything he could possibly think of and nothing seam to make it budge past that speed and the errors just wont stop.

The graph shows a severe loss of signal as frequencies increase. This could be some sort of filter on the line which shouldn't be there, or some line fault, or even just a poor line.
What do you have connected to the phone line?
Are you using any extension cables?
Does the line come in off a pole?
|

What do you have connected to the phone line?
at the time nothing it was on the text socket so just filter-router
Are you using any extension cables?
when my pre filtered faceplate is on theres a extension connected to a sky box but no extensions on router just the adsl cable that came with it but as stated that ps was on test socket
Does the line come in off a pole?
yes comes from pole see here not best of pics but gets the point accross
Sky have said they see 406 high end errors but cant figure out wats causing them because it dose it even when direct to TEST socket
The line its self is oni a few week old the old one was ripped out 16 year ago so had to have a new one fitted when switched to sky

Oh dear, doesn't sound like there's much I can suggest.
Have yoiu got any extension sockets and if so, do these go dead when you use the test socket?
Can you see where the line line comes to the house from the pole, and can you trace the line to the inside ensuring there aren't any odd boxes on the the line to the master socket.
Can you hear any noise on the line?
You could try changing the cable to the router and a different filter.

just the SKY TV extension that is embedded behind the pre filtered faceplate but as i say even when its not pluged in still errors

yes as i say it was a full new line from were it hits the house direct to the openreach NTE5 soocket it goes from the pole to the house then direct round the house to my room
Can you hear any noise on the line?
no none at all i thought it might of been noise to start with
You could try changing the cable to the router and a different filter.
ive tried 2 diff cabled and also tried my pre filtered faceplate and 2 filters in the test socket all while i was on the phone to sky they seam as stumped as me

Is the router in the master socket?
Does the phone extension to the sky box stop working when you use the test socket?

Hi yes the router go's direct into socket See pic
and yes the sky TV extention stops working when using the test socket because the sky extension is wired into the filtered faceplate so when the faceplate is removed so is the extension see pic
But as stated it doesn't make a difference when using the faceplate or test socket
with filtered Faceplate on
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7527 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 37.5 dB 20.8 dB
Noise Margin 12.8 dB 12.5 dB
in test socket
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

the sky TV extention stops working when using the test socket because the sky extension is wired into the filtered faceplate so when the faceplate is removed so is the extension see pic I see nothing wrong there -- other than poor quality "wiremanship" by the person who installed the "Sky extension". (There should not be any excess of wire overhanging the IDCs.)

That would of been me . . . Just snip off the overhanging ends with a pair of sharp nail-scissors -- or something similar -- and the perfectionists will then not be muttering amongst themselves.
Regarding the new line that OR installed for you. Was it just wiring inside the house? Or was it a new drop-cable from the top of the pole to the house and then onwards, inside the house, to the NTE5A that you have shown us in the first picture?

the line from the pole was already there and then it joins to the new wires outside the house that goes to the NTE5 with a little black tube looking thing ive seen on quite a re line replacements it seams to be the standard new BT cable joining thing.

the line from the pole was already there and then it joins to the new wires outside the house that goes to the NTE5 with a little black tube looking thing Right, I see. I don't know the official designation (or part number) for it but it is obviously a weatherproof external in-line junction. Assuming the connections were made inside it correctly (and I have no reason to suspect there is anything wrong), then you have ruled out the possibility of any other peculiarities with the incoming line -- just as BatBoy wanted to know, above.
The only suggestion I can now make is for you to decide upon which modem/router you intend to use, connect it up and leave it alone for about a week to ten days. No fiddling! Just let the line and modem stabilise, thus becoming familiar with each other.

yea sky found 406 critical errors but don't no what they are im waiting on a call back from tier 2 support apparently they'll be able to look into it more. A friend of mine said he experienced a similar problem to me and it turned out to be a faulty card in the exchange. So im hoping tier 2 will be able to detect if its that they've told me its these errors what's stopping me achieving my optimal speed. Its also stopping them lowering the SNR for me manually i suppose now its jut a waiting game on when they'll ring.

Hi,
Have you still got the DMT tool running?????
When it was running did you adjust your SNR??????? because looking at your print you have a lot more speed there.
If you didn't adjust your SNR then try doing it and see what you get, Check the link below on how to set it up :-

yes i adjusted the SNR but it did not seam to change anything what it did do was prove that my line is capable of having the speed if it wasn't for these errors what ever the errors are. (sky say its the errors that are capping me at 7.5 no matter what they try. They tried putting me on 6DB SNR and forcing me on a 11meg profile and it just failed for them and kep me at 7.5. Im waiting on a call back from tier 2 support apparently they have some tools what will be able to more determine the errors what tier 1 dont have access to)
I dont have it running now no i had to switch back to the sky router coz over the next threw days sky are going to be contacting me and trying to find out what's wrong so i need to leave for sky router in incase they randomly ring me up lol

So are you saying that when you had DMT running you moved the slider down from 100%
then ticked ADSL2+ abd then DSL Resync and nothing at all changed on your ADSL Performance and Line Quality????????

Nothing at all changed lol the only thing that changed was that that RCO number it originally said 7645, then when i moved the SNR Thing and selected adsl2+ it changed the 12260, But as you can see from the graph my actual stats didn't change. But this could be to do with the errors on my line as sky have said these unknown errors are blocked even them from forcing me onto better speed/lower SNR . Still waiting from a call back from sky tier 2 support with the results of the tests they've been doing to try find out what they actually are .

Sky may have forced a fixed speed sync, and no amount of playing at your end will resolve this.

As i've said sky them selves have have tried forcing me onto higher and it wont work for them. A friends of mine who used to be a broadband engineer said it could be a faulty card at the exchange but cant confirm until sky tier 2 support get back to me with exactly whats causing the errors.

They've asked me to hammer my connection tonight and tomorrow and there going to monitor to see if i have any errors or big speed drops and call me back between 8-9 tomorrow. They said if i get loads of errors or big speed drops in the next 24 hours theyll book an engineer at there cost.

Your upstream speed still looks a little low, I guess because of the profile you're on. There was a list of profiles Sky can set, but it looks like Sky stamped on it: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-help/42...

Yes i thought that DMT tools said its possible to get 986 but im not going to push my luck. Because knowing my luck they'd raise my upload and it would naff my download up again so ill leave it as it is lol.

The upload speeds which Sky have set on their downstream profiles on their new ISAMs are generally lower than the line can handle unfortunately, something i raised here: http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband-Technical-Issu...
On some downstream profiles the downstream speed can have 7dB of margin whereas the upstream speed can have a margin well in to double figures - wasted margin and an unnecessarily slow upstream speed.

Yea it dose seam stupid o2/be have no probs with upload speed so its stupid that sky do i dont no what im on. TBH i thought i was on SVBN but my first hop is easynet so some people on here think im on the old easynet hardware instead lol. Its the main thing i miss about virgin media TBH i have coped well going from 50 to 11 on down speed but the 5meg upload on virgin was brilliant.

You might be in luck then, I think downstream and upstream speeds can be manually adjusted on the old Easynet DSLAMs (not 100% sure about this)?

It seems quite obvious to me sky use this proxy profiling system to
1, save on providing good tech support
2, ease the strain on it's network
As an ex ukonline customer that used the easynet network, which used similar equipment to some of sky's, such as those currently on SMPF ( adsl only) will quiet possibly be connected to an old easynet dsam, the very same kit as us ukonline customers where connected to
the easynet network does support upto 22mbits downstream , sky limit this to 20mbit or less, and although sky advertise an upto of 1.3mbits upstream on the new kit maybe, but on the easynet stuff, i think the max was around 1.2mbits or that was some technical limit set by easynet
but with ukonline there was no DLM,their support would provide custom profiles on request, and they also provided fastpath,we had to pay more but imo it was worth it

Yea they did manual do it from 828 to 910 but also say it wont go any higher i did run DMZ tools (on belkin router not sky one) and this confirms it is about the max it can handle so oh well lol better than nothing.

11293 932
Noise margin (dB)
7.0 8.6
oddly enough my Attenuation always gos up with the belkin as well from 37.5 to 39.5 i think this is just a glitch on the belkin though

just used DMT tools (with the belkin router) and squeezed a little more out of it. It seams a good tool just goes to show if sky supported lower SNRs they could give u a better speed.
before DMT
Downstream Upstream
Data Rate(Kbps)
11293 932
Noise margin (dB)
7.0 8.6
Attenuation (dB)
39.0 20.8
After DMT
Downstream Upstream
Data Rate(Kbps)
11487 998
Noise margin (dB)
5.0 8.0
Attenuation (dB)
39.0 20.8
