I just brought openreach mk2 faceplate from bt shop and also netgear homeplug av500 gigabit with my netgear dgnd3700v2 wireless router (support fibre) and everything is ready for to order FTTC soon end of this month. Maybe I will option for self-install as I don't think I need BT Engineer in my property as I had installed openreach mk2 faceplate (I think it also support fibre) If I choose self-install will Plusnet sent out Fibre Modem or still required BT Openreach engineer visitor?

No, not yet, not that I know of. I had my Plusnet FTTC connection installed today and self install wasn't an option when I ordered (just after new year). Not that I wanted the option, since we didn't have a NTE5 socket, so needed one installing anyway.
I imagine that once they do offer self install they will provide a combined modem/router (like the BT Home highway 5)

Can you provide a link for the FTTC faceplate on the BT shop site.

self install i think means you dont tounch the faceplace and just plug in the router and modem (The face plate is openreach network -- a drawback on self install is it is dependant on ow clean your line is - as you could lose a large percentrage of the speed if you have a nunber of sockets - thats not good if you are quite a way from the cabinet to start with

Yes unfortunately, yawn .....
I wondered how long it would be before Part 3 started.
|
|

Self-install from the user perspective is identical to the first time they have ADSL installed. A short break whilst the cabinet connections are remade. (As opposed to a short break whilst the exchange connections are remade).
The faceplate is not part of the Openreach network. The demarcation point remains the test socket of the NTE5.
With FTTC self-install the responsibility for optimising the home wiring moves from Openreach to the user - exactly as it has been for years with ADSLx.
However, as has been said, the OP is not yet able to order via the PlusNet system a self-install. I expect it could be arranged via the some level or other of support, as it would require cancellation of the engineer home visit.

Dear Sir
Thank you for your enquiry about fibre broadband, you are connected to Cuckoo Oak exchange cabinet 8.
Your fibre broadband are now enabled and accepting order. I am afraid I have no information as to estimated speeds or date on the BT Wholesale Checker.
If you have any further questions, please ensure you have read the FAQ's on our website, http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/faq/. If your question is answered within the FAQ section, we will not respond to your e-mail.

U better removed ADSLNation faceplate or Openreach might see it and say no need to change. It's happen to my friend. He end up order one himself.
My friend adslnation faceplate when FTTC go live is 71/15 and change to mk2 and now getting 78/18
I will removed mk2 when openreach come and let him fitted one himself while I kept my spare one. (for bonding fibre)

I must say, thought she was a rude sod to me, very condescending and I picked her up about it for which she did apologise.
Just tried explaining that my cabinet that there was one cabinet that appeared to be no worse that any other cabinet, yet unlike other cabinets and even recent cabinets, waiting 4 months for a resolution (23 metres of trunking) which OpenReach which were doing that on other newer cabinets two weeks after install!
Expressed my amazement that this was out of kilter to BT's usual standards and could she offer any thoughts. She did a load of chest beating about how wonderful BT was and they' don't have time to do a detailed analysis (which I never asked for - but surely some project manager somewhere will know some overall status - maybe not, so not surprising the problems), and about how everybody wants their cabinet fixed first.
Erm, nope, I just want to be dealt with in order along with every one else.
Tried to ask as an aside who I can report a potentially dangerous and faulty metal man hole cover in the road to. She ignored me.

It normally takes 10 days to be ready to place orders.
So you should be able to place an order for superfast Broadband by mid-February with your service provider Plusnet.
All the post code checker sites should be updated as the cabinet progresses through to RFS.

I had this problem when ordering; seems it was some problem within the internal ordering system for the wholesale bits of BT.
It needed a "bridge case" in order to fix behind the scenes. Sounds like it really needed a database update somwhere.
My ISP was Plusnet, who helped through the process. Wasn't quick though.

It is certainly a BT Wholesale issue. Unfortunately the BT automatic ordering system keeps rejecting the order now for some reason - which BT can't get their head around.

You could always migrate to PlusNet who, although their support dept. is apparently over-stretched at present (until their new call centre is fully staffed), at least have UK-based offices and their staff speak better English than those of Bangalore Telecom.

I'm locked into a contract with BT until 2015 so that isn't an option. I want to keep BT for BT Sport anyway.
Just had a call from BT to say that the original order did not process correctly but the BT system thinks I am already on Infinity 2, so any subsequent order has instantly failed because it thinks I am trying to order something I already have.
The fun and games continue. It's now down to the BT order team to clear out the original order.

Sounds oh so familiar. Clearing out the old order was the problem I had.
Plusnet support understood the process for escalating the issue, which is what generated the bridge case. It still took a long time for that to happen - escalated did not necessarily mean expedited.

I too am getting fed up with OpenReach.
We came home from holiday last September to find a fibre box had been installed - yippee!
At the beginning of December the contractor providing a power supply to the fibre box molded through main village telephone cable so most of the village had no phones for about 2 weeks!!!! - Booooooooooh!
We were told that we weren't in the first set of local addresses to be connected by an on site OpenReach person. Boooooooooooooooooooh!
Around Xmas the exchange went live and the postcode checker said we should look for a supplier but both the BT wholesale telephone number checker & the providers say we don't have a service - & nor does anyone else connected to out nice shiny, but rapidly getting old, box. Boooooooooooooooh!
As the postcode checker says that the exchange is live it doesn't provide any useful info and the wholesale checker merely says what is available with no indication of when the fibre will be switched on. Booooooooooooooh!
November/December they came & cleaned out the ducts which also I nvolved digging several small holes in the road. Yipeeeeeee!
I have emailed the queries link at OpenReach and they don't seem to want to reply. Booooooooooooh!
Talk about frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why oh why will they not provide this basic information. They must have a really strong customer service ethic. I bet that their mission statement doesn't read like this.

Hi guys,
I don't know if any of you recall, but I posted a while ago asking if it was possible for 1 FTTC cabinet to support 2 normal cabinets.
I explained that there are 2 cabinets, one on each side of a busway, (Cabinet 25 and 26 respectively). The FTTC cabinet was right by Cabinet 25.
However, today I noticed that a 2nd cabinet is being put in place right next to the existing FTTC cabinet. As per the photograph.
http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z374/Dark_Kobra/...
Cabinet 26 is in the foreground (closest to the camera). I noticed that in another post, that it is possible that a second cabinet could pop up to cater for extra capacity.
Cabinet 26 (my cabinet) is due to get FTTC around 31st May, but what I'm wondering, is it possible that this second cabinet could be for capacity expansion at Cabinet 25, or could it be more likely to serve Cabinet 26?
I wasn't sure due to the fact that the cabinets are so close to each other and are closer to Cabinet 25 than 26.
(It's just that, I would have assumed that there would have been a FTTC cabinet next to Cabinet 26, but I believe that the distance that they are at, are more than in adequate range to serve Cabinet 26)
Many thanks guys for any opinions or ideas!

FTTC cabinets can be anywhere from 1-100 meters away from the pcp, in your case it could be a expansion cabinet for cab 25 or the FTTC twin for pcp 26.
Until the BT wholesale checker says that you can order FTTC, will have to wait and see if that FTTC cab is for pcp 26.
In my local town their are two sets of pcp's that have both their FTTC cabinets next to each other, both are under 50 meters from their pcp's.

Noteworthy you took a screenshot from the BT Infinity checker, but a text copy/paste here, along with a summary of the email you 'received' in double quick time from Openreach rather than your usual copy/paste.
A chat with an Openreach employee informs that your cabinet, Cuckoo Oak 8, is currently under commissioning process and remains forecast to go live in February. It has at no point been marked RFS.

A couple of issues here.
1) The commissioning team are nothing to do with the availability database beyond ticking the box to say the cabinet is ready. The only software updating they would do is the software for the cabinets.
2) Plusnet and BT Retail use the same information. They both query the BT Wholesale database via a well known API so the suggestion that Openreach have had major issues with Plusnet but BT Retail have been fine and the Wholesale checker claims ready for service while Plusnet don't is absurd. BT Wholesale get the RFS information from Openreach and pass it on to their customers, 2 of which are Plusnet and BT Retail.
Anyway, back to my break. \o.

Here is my speedtest with Plusnet: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3273681231

Maybe strange in that you have posted many times that it is your cabinet and then post an image to show it isn't, which actually shows it is
